Re: YB's Typecasting
YellowBeard:
>You say that you can recognize propaganda in any disguise it wears. Well you sure got fooled by SRF. Why is the guru untouchable? Why is he the Second Coming of Christ for you? You may say that he's not, and that he's just a swell guy with some good ideas that you happen to agree with. You think sticking your face on the floor before someone in blind obedience is a good idea? And you're lecturing me on propaganda?<

Hmm, are you still talking to me or casting this like a sprinkler system toward anyone still willing to read your posts?

If you had read my post with a little bit more of attention, you would have found that this is what I said: "I'm certainly not familiar with all existing techniques of manipulation, but the ones I was exposed to for a big part of my life I will smell no matter in what disguise they come." And yours just smelled big time like that. -- The "SRF-odor" came to me as a new experience, that's right. But I don't know why you are saying all the other things. It's certainly not based on anything I said. Nor do I have the impression that you are paying close attention to what others on this board have to said so far; you are just talking from your inner "treasure chest of assumptions" without letting anything come your way. Maybe you have a one-way nervous system, who knows?

"Wisdom is the chisel; love is the sandpaper." - from Man's Eternal Quest

I think these guys (Yukteswar T-type and Yogananda F-type) were a great team that have sculpted a spiritual message for the ages.

Speaking from the poetic, imaginative and experiencial (mine) viewpoint

redpurusha, friend and illuminator
evolved person of heart and in that way stellar

repurusha, friend and illuminator
offering us a fresh taste after too much sour

redpurusha, friend and illuminator
allow us to say, of you we become quite fond

redpurusha, illuminator ...YOUR heart and life is a ..."message for the ages!!"

repurusha, illuminator of heart's compassion
for you to feel my hand reach to touch your feet

is my heart's, is my mystical imagination's wish
for you to feel my kind thought and touch

even if it seems in excess and a bit too much

and it is right above
in the post, your post of love
repurusha, our love, feel this missive and its soft tender dove

you share your spiritual treasure trove,

Web Statistics / More on NF Idealists
To Everyone
Punk is glad you're finding benefit in the Keirsey information.

For the sake of curiosity, I'm posting a link to Keirsey's Web Statistics. This is a breakdown of all the typologies who have visited the site and taken the test. So far, there have been 6 1/2 million.

keirsey.com/scripts/stats.cgi

Keirsey writes:
Quote:
"The estimated distribution of temperaments of US general population are 40-45% Guardian, 35-40% Artisan, 5-10% Idealist, 5-10% Rational.  The web statistics derived mostly data collected when the Sorter was totally free on the web, are global statistics not restricted to the US, are however to some degree self-selecting. This self-selection bias is not surprising because Idealists and Guardians generally are more interested seeking out and taking the questionnaires.  The Artisans are typically not as interested in temperament theory, as the rest of the temperaments are.  The Idealists are the most enthusiastic of the temperaments about temperament theory. On the other hand, the web statistics have been stable for years, and the millions taking online currently indicate the same distribution."

Since a high percentage of you found yourselves to be expressing the NF Idealist personality, I thought you'd find that part interesting where he says, "The Idealists are the most enthusiastic of the temperaments about temperament theory."

I find that to be true. From what I've observed, the human potential movement consists of a lot of NF Idealists. This is because they employ their abstract thinking skills in social ways, to solve human problems.

Their search for personal meaning and authenticity leads them into fields which help people develop themselves holistically (an NF term) Many of them go into education, psychology, healing, and counseling. But a lot of them are in the arts. In music, for example, we have U2's lead singer, Bono, who is clearly an ENFP Idealist -- what Keirsey calls the "Champion." Bono is a passionate artist who also gets involved in global issues. In recent years he visited the Pope and leading members of Washington with his Jubilee 2000 campaign in an attempt to get the World Bank and International Money Fund to forgive the debt of low-income countries. NF's are personnel builders. In corporations they will constantly monitor the corporate culture to make sure everybody is feeling good. They like to bring out the best in people and appreciate any tools (such as the Keirsey Sorter) which aid them in that endeavor and in their own personal growth.

Something I found elsewhere on the net:
Quote:
One member of your team has a “catalyst” personality (one of the four NF types). These types of individuals are able to inspire others, and while their personal contribution or ability might be modest, they have the gift of bringing out the best in those around them

builder.com.com/5100-6404-1049633-2.html

Keirsey also mentions that NF Idealists are "situated on pathways." This means that an Idealist never feels he or she has arrived at a final destination or the Truth. The joy of being for an Idealist is to be "on the road to find out" as Cat Stevens once wrote. Progress, therefore, is not a destination but rather a constant mode of discovery and becoming. Needless to say, NF Idealists can suffer from occasional identity crises as they revise their current concepts and remake themselves. Nevertheless, they are resilient and up for the change. This is opposite the security seeking Guardians who like to stay put once they've found a niche.

I would venture to say that Idealists are the most wary of statements by people who have said that they've found the Self. For an Idealist it is more accurate to say, "I have found the road to Self" because the Idealist knows that the Self is endless and never entirely apprehended. Idealists, therefore, are comfortable being Divine Gypsies. Ever led by their curiosities, they find mystery alluring and not something to contain or explain away. This constant process of becoming is, in my opinion, what Yogananda meant when he called the spiritual path "the Divine Romance."

As for Yogananda, I am willing to put my cards on the table and bet that he was primarily an Idealist with touches of Artisan. He actually straddles a few of the types. I sense ENFP Idealist with a dash of ESFP Artisan ("the Performer").

MOVIES & TYPOLOGY: Master and Commander
"Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World"

The lead character, Captain Jack Aubrey as portrayed by Russell Crowe, is most likely an INTJ Mastermind.

Captain Aubrey or "Lucky Jack" is known in the service "for his capture of rich prizes and victories against long odds." He navigates the H.M.S Surprise in harrowing pursuit of a superior French vessel.

INTJs are strategic thinkers who regard life as a game of chess.

Even Daya Mata Agrees
In a Winter 2003 Self-Realization Magazine article titled "How To Deal With Hurt Feelings," Daya Mata says:

The divine law of karma, which works ultimately for our benefit, draws together souls of diverse personalities and temperaments and puts them in situations that reveal their weaknesses, so that they have the opportunity to see and deal with their mental and spiritual defects and be healed of them.

Re: Even Daya Mata Agrees
I just found this thread. Thanks, punk, for the interesting insights.

I'm an INTJ, but I seem to have pretty strong F tendencies with that. For a type that represents 1% of the population there are a lot of us here. And as punk pointed out, well, something like this, independent thinking is common here but not a good fit in SRF.

I must say I don't think of life as a chess game, though I play chess. The analytical and strategic aspects of chess are charming, but for me anyone 'losing' is not much fun. As in life.

When I played card games my 'secret' goal was to create tie games. Pretty challenging, but fun and I pulled it off more often than I thought I could. The surprise was that nobody I played with liked it but me. They wanted definitive victories and defeats. So I changed my strategy to our opponent winning on the last hand 3 out of 5 games. This created a lot of excitement and laughter and I thought I was doing great. But it upset my partner, so I changed to even over time.

So I suppose 'the mastermind' shoe fits. But not the part of being uncaring toward others. Just not understanding others very well in some areas (and very well indeed in other areas).
