ALERT! WARNING! Where is entire thread on Mitrananda?
To all those who care about the Walrus: It would APPEAR that the founder/owner/manager whatever of this board is engaging in the very sorts of censorship and alteration of facts that we disapprove of in SRF. If you look at a list of active members (main page, center, just under "352 registered members"), and click on their most recent posts, you will find that the majority of those posts have been deleted. In fact. of the 21 messages listed, only ONE of them is an active link--the one to UFOs. This is VERY serious. I am inclined to consider the Walrus dead, and to open another EZBoard, one that is free from such censorship and manipulation of threads (yes, I know there's another one already, I think it's called "cultbusters" or something like that, but as far as I'm concerned, it has lost ALL credibility). Of course, there might be a rational explanation I haven't thought of, but right now I can't imagine what it would be. I'm particularly pissed, because I contributed heartily to the discussion on Mitrananda, and wanted to follow up on recent additions to the thread. Even if it's been moved somewhere I can't find right now, that's still very uncool, Mr. Walrus. The fact that twenty of the twenty-one posts from the most active members have disappeared raises serious doubts about the credibility of THIS board. Has the Walrus sold out to SRF? Mr. Walrus, you'd better explain, or this board will quickly become a thing of the past.

Reasonable doubt (?): I saw an account of a "hacker attack" against ezboard in general earlier this week, with some lost messages. Is it possible that the Mitrananda thread, one of the newest ones was affected?

You are absolutely right, though, we need a response from the Walrus on where the Mitrananda thread might have gone.

Re: ALERT! WARNING! Where is entire thread on Mitrananda?
Yeah, I suspected the reported hacker too, but either the Walrus needs to be more involved in letting us know what's going on these days or we need a new board.

I'd also like to know why the Walrus chose to close the board to only registered members for both reading and viewing. I can think of plausible explanations but think it should be explained.

The deceptive and multipled personality moderator of cultbusters is saying that those of us who deserted his totally biased and abusive board, and those whom he banned out of fear of his losing control of the tone, are behind the Walrus tightening, which is completely wrong (par for the course for him).

Re: ALERT! WARNING! Where is entire thread on Mitrananda?
Go to the ezboard forums and you will find that there has been a system wide hack of many many ezboards. This happened early Tuesday morning May 31, 2005. They are attempting to restore things. I, the all seeing all knowing SRF nurtured swami Ugizralrite through my immeasurable foresight and wisdom at one time perhaps a year and a half ago (my crystal clarity fails me here as to when) backed up the entire SRF Walrus to CDs. So the early days are safe here in my incorruptible vault of infinite wisdom. Of course I hope and trust that ezboard will succeed, thus saving me from exercising my inexhaustible powers of renewal. But then I wouldn't be able to gloat, bummer. And for you jackasses out there who don't comprehend subtle humor, I am trying bring a little laughter to a bad situation. But I do have the CDs if ever needed.

Re: ALERT! WARNING! Where is entire thread on Mitrananda?
I sent srfwalrus an email maybe a month ago asking why the board was closed so just those logged in could see it. I never got a reply. This board was a great service to warn others about SRF and we owe a great debt to srfwalrus for starting it. I hope it becomes public again.

Paramdas, besides cultbusters, there's the p101.ezboard.com/bkriyayogaboard but it looks like not much is happening there. There was a notice about it a while ago on cultbusters.

Re: ALERT! WARNING! Where is entire thread on Mitrananda?
Thanks, UY,
After so much effort's gone into this board, it seems a shame to have it's manager (and maybe dictator??) turn up AWOL.
How would people feel about starting a new EZBoard? Perhaps (for continuity's sake) we could call it the "New Walrus". Instead of having one person run the entire thing, we could have a group of committed current members manage it. That way it would be more democratic, and if there was a problem, it would be more likely that a managing member would be available to quickly fix the problem. Do I hear any takers?
One question we need to ask ourselves is: do we really need, or even want, to continue this board? Personally, I find it valuable to have others to discuss SRF-related issues with. God knows I can't discuss them with local devotees---they're all Egyptian ("in De Nile"). Secondly, I think there should be some place where questioning devotees can go to get facts about SRF unvarnished by SRF's infernal white-washing machine. Admittedly, I have no clue whatever how much of a job it would be to manage an EZBoard (maybe we should find another service, if EZBoard gets hacked?).
Anyway, FEEDBACK please. Thanks.

OK, this is really starting to piss me off. If you go to "View Active Members List.." and click on my handle, Paramadas, then try to click on my Recent Posts, every last one of them has been deleted. If this is the result of a hacker, it's time we looked for a different home, a board with better security (there's lots of free boards, right? What about a Yahoo group? Never heard of a hacker getting in there). If this is the result of a different sort of hacking, i.e. "editing" then we need to re-form the board in a more democratic way...that is, if anyone feels we should keep the Walrus alive. Either way, this is untenable. I put alot of work into each and every one of those posts.

I think your looking at a hack job of some kind, What would be the point of all this editing ? It's threads like this that make this board work.....It is also been the thread on walrus that was the most active....in fact the only active thread for some time.....I think some of the recent stuff has been lost.

Re: ALERT! WARNING! Where is entire thread on Mitrananda?
It sounds like the hackers did quite a job on the board, deleting entire board contents, deleting money from community chests, deleting members from boards, and even deleting online daily backups they made.

Ezboard says they're trying to restore everything they can from offline backups. In the meantime I would give the Walrus the benefit of the doubt. This isn't just a free board. Ezboard has a lot of paying members. Imagine how they felt seeing community chests get wiped out! I bet Ezboard is going to take every step they can to make sure this doesn't happen in the future. I'd wait a while and see what happens.

yogananda.net message boards
Following up on my earlier discussion of the need to do something about this Walrus board, which has apparently been the victim of both neglect and hacking, I saw a post that redpurusha recently edited. It's in the CatchAll thread from the main page, and it concerns medicine and the zodiac and such. Well, the links he provides take you to www.yogananda.net/messageboard, so my question is: does anyone here know whether criticism of SRF is tolerated on that board? I'm not going to post anything substantive here until we get the hacking/editing issue resolved. Maybe I could post my caustic remarks there, or would they just get deleted?

Re: yogananda.net message boards
I don't think yogananda.net tolerates criticism of SRF, Parmadas. I don't know for sure but have read elsewhere that it's a very controlled board. Allan (?) wants to keep it "positive", just like SRF is always "positive."

On the other subject, I think that setting up and moderating a new board would be a rather time consuming proposition. While I'd appreciate a more responsive moderator, I don't really want to lose the connection to all the history here. Maybe, if the Walrus reads this thread, he/she/they might consider broadening the group of moderators if he/she/they don't have time for it at present.

Back-up thread Mitrananda
As a very thankful reader of this board, I would say that not only SRF, but also the manager(S?) of this board might consider more transparency and openness in their policy. I'm referring to the obligatory log-in as member.

By the way I do have a back-up of the thead on Mitrananda, at least till somewhere in March this year. So I hope the walrus shows up to tell us whether he's got a clue as to what happened to the thead. This board is so valuable that it would be utterly regrettable to have stains on it!

I paste my back-up here in full:

deva just returned back from india in last few weeks
mitra had sat in (coming to richmond chapel for four times or so over some month

he had given a chicago retreat (i believe I have this rght) in last month or two

has also had been speakin at at least one other temple in addition to richmond

it certainly may be his leaving, some combination of the two

it even may be him pushing the envelop to force their hand, he has been pushing the envelop

there was quite a bit of facts and propaganda ( are the two possible to tell apart) at yesterday's meeting for householders:
Led by Bro Atman and Bri Lee on:
Mitra
when: after the service at Richmond chapel

for instance a grandiose creative one year package where he travels as a householder filming in india, on a paid years leave, paid by srf, and then he will be back

the spinners are spinning....

let me confess utter ignorance

of note mitra, deva, jaya and atman had overseen parts of the monks spiritual life committee until fear without a small amount of help from satya stuck it down

so specualtions run rampant, to bad we can't harness for some renewable energy

if he was quoted inaccurately in saying the best thing for srf would be to completely shut down for a year

Mitrananda, if you read this, sorry about what happened. I am sure you have the sympathies of every SRF householder who knew you, and of plenty of monastics too. If you need help in any way please send me email via this board and I'll keep it anonymous.

If there is a silver lining, it is that anyone who considers having anything to do with Self Realization Fellowship will learn about this thanks to this board and hopefully realize what SRF has become. Let all spiritual seekers who think of assisting SRF or even becoming SRF monastics, learn from this and stay clear of SRF and all it has become. If they'd kick out someone after 35 years of being a monastic on the SRF "airplane route" to God then what will they do to others.

From the BB Board's SRF Walrus - bunch of ignorant fools thread:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
God bless dear Brother Mitrananda.

I am so tired of all the negativity about SRF.
God bless Daya Ma, and SRF always!
Divine Love is what we need to embrace through these turbulent times.
I pray for all those unkind souls who feel the need to lash and and hurt SRF. They are in need of our prayers.

Love IS what will heal. It may take a lot of time, but Love always prevails over the negative maya...It has to, for God is Love, and God's law is the highest.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Walrus posters are tired of the negativity and hypocrisy of SRF.

In the view of the "true blues," when SRF lashes out with lawyers and firings and monastic bootings, it's karma. When ex-devotees, ex-monastics, ex-employees, and others hiss back, it's negativity. Yeah, right.

Since Daya Mata has been at the helm for 50 years now, perhaps she could explain why SRF has felt the need to change Master's actual signature, alter his aims and ideals by removing "world brotherhood colonies," legally harass people, force out and legally gag dozens of ex-monastics, avoid financial accountability, and callously lay off people who have worked for them for years. Perhaps she could explain why they've covered up so much early history and whitewashed Master's image to the extent that we don't even know him unless we start reading other accounts.

Like us all, SRF is simply reaping what they sow. People who work there say the prevailing ethic is confusion and fear, not love.

Thank God morons like those who post negative crap on Websites about SRF are weeded out of SRF.

For those who criticize SRF and the monastics I would sure like to see you join the ashram and challenge yourself to continue Master's work while dealing with your "stuff."

If you don't have anything positive to say about SRF keep it to yourself and move on. Furthermore, the monastics who serve in Master's organization, SRF, are to be applauded for their selfless service. Regardless if they stay or leave they are still to be looked upon in gratitude for what they have done or continue to do for Master's work.

SRF will continue to grow and help man find God thru the blessings of our guru Paramahansa Yogananda. Remember, it is Master who founded SRF.

In disbelief.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Morons posting negative crap? There's a fine uplifting thought from a highly realized devotee.

If you don't have anything positive to say, then keep it to yourself? There is room in Master's "inn" for people who think SRF needs serious change, although not in SRF's, obviously.

Remember that Master founded SRF? Remember that St. Francis founded his order before his followers quickly ran it into the ground, according to Master. I don't know if positive change occurred there eventually or not. Let's hope it does for Master's organization.

Where did you get that quote Divine Gypsy? I would be curious to know how people think monastics in the ashram are serving God, Master or anyone else. They live in their own world serving NO ONE. It is the most selfish self-centered place you can imagine.

Taking 50 years to publish the gita was service? A small handful of themgiving lectures once a week is a life of service?

I understand that the myth of service by monastics is strong. But go ahead, ask some of them how they are serving God. Working in accounting is service? Lots of people work in accounting. Creating a magazine is service? Lots of people work on magazines. You probably can't even describe the work that most of the nuns do. It involves monitoring members and fellow monastics, power plays among themselves and attending meetings to maintain vise-like control of everything that happens. Where is the service?

Most people ASSUME they lead a life of service because the details are so secret and because most people really don't much think about it. Your average automobile dealership, which might sponsor a boy scout troop, socker team or some charity, does more service to mankind and God. Think people, think.

Regarding Mother Center's position on Mitrananda's "leave of absence," I wonder what they would say if asked whether they have any legal agreement with him that he not discuss his reasons for leaving, or anything else pertaining to SRF?

If they understand why there would be strong interest in why such a public and respected monastic is "outside of SRF at this time," and they seriously feel that there's nothing secret about it, maybe they would publicly urge him to explain it. They could put it on their website or issue a press release.

The last I remember is the moderator here who I think is Divine Gypsy got into a verbal fist fight with the the moderator of Cultbusters (Yellowbeard); actually, a few people from here got into the fight, including Srfsolongago and Grainne Uaile. After that, those three turned Cultbusters into swiss cheese, deleting everything in sight, and then Divine Gypsy locked everyone out of here ...and posts went missing.

Yellowbeard continued to limp along and regain control of his board, but this one went kaput. And that's all I know.

Say It Isn't So, your imagination is on overdrive. I only found the Walrus a couple of years ago. Then I found cultbusters. Then I learned how dishonest cultbuster's moderator is in breaking all of his "rules" and arguing his positions under various pseudonyms, and then several of us with widely differing views decided that we didn't wish our posts to remain on his board.

This board has had several interesting discussions since then. I have lost interest in the other and I haven't paid much attention to this one in the last couple of weeks.

Re: Back-up thread Mitrananda
srfwalrus, glad to see you're still alive. The above is your first post in a long while, isn't it? Well, glad to have you back. Regarding Mitrananda, I recently spoke to Dennis and Kanta, and they hinted that they knew why Mitra had been dismissed, but they mumbled something like, "It's better to forget about that." I have seen this reluctance to talk about sensitive subjects before, and it usually means that they know something that they are too embarrassed to share. I asked Dennis and Kanta directly if Mitra had recommended their meditation course, and they said yes, he had, but that was a long time ago, and they positively stated that this was NOT the reason Mitra had been dismissed. I mention this because someone on this board had suggested the possibility that Mitra's recommendation of their non-SRF stuff could have gotten him fired. Unfortunately, that person's posts were deleted in the great EZboard hacking. Also destroyed in that hackjob were my posts suggesting that Mitra may have recommended Scientology to devotees, based on comments made to me by a novice monk who said clearly that Mitra was dismissed after recommending "emotional clearing" to some devotees, and then refusing to stop recommending this method after SRF told him to cease and desist. As some of you know, "emotional clearing" is a term coined by Scientology, and it seemed logical to me, because Mitra has connections to the world of acting and theatre, and Scientology is very strong in that community. I still present this as a possibility, but I have no direct proof, and this particular monk may have just plain been wrong. In any event, if anybody actually talks to Mitra (another monk told me he was living in LA somewhere), or has other definitive information (or even another wacky theory) then please post it here. I really miss Mitra, and it cheeses me off no end that SRF isn't forthright about these issues....or any issues, for that matter.

Seems like alot of frustrated Ananada people post here. No organization is perfect, so expectations that SRF function flawlessly are naive. Many cannot progress on a spiritual path because of lack of will or getting caught in their own illusions. The worst part is when they begin to defend their own delusions - it would be better to remain quiet. SRF serves a function and hopefully it will continue that mission.
