How Are Things Going?
I always wonder when I visit this site, how things are going for all you ex-monastics.
Anyone want to comment on this.

Are you coping financially?
What about housing, employment?
Emotionally?
Are you happier and coping better?
Any regrets? ... (err, might be a silly question) ;) ;)

I realise any answers cannot be too specific, that's ok, any answer is better than wondering.

My thoughts are with you, you are very courageous people.
Living your truth.

Love and blessings to you all.

P :)

Re: How Are Things Going?
Here is a little info for you.
I talked to a friend of mine recently (ex-monastic) and was told that many are struggling to make a living. Some fare better than others, if they have independent money or family support. It is not easy to start over. But none have mentioned any regrets about leaving the ashram world. Many feel sorry for friends they left behind there, but understand how difficult it is to leave, after being out of the mainstream culture for so long.

Re: How Are Things Going?
Part of the damage done by SRF (in the name of Master) is that they steal so many years from the lives of people during their critical 20’s and 30’s. Many monastics give up their lives to serve what they think is Master. They are wonderful selfless souls and they serve their hearts out. By the time they finally give up thinking SRF can be turned into a place where they actually can serve Master, the devotees and grow themselves many years have passed. They have no vocational skills and to be honest have been so abused it is difficult to have the self esteem to roar out into the world and make a go of it.

Part of the damage we devotees do by supporting SRF is to keep this torture factory in operation. I think little is said on this website of the contribution the membership is making to this problem.

Some people might think that Master can be served anywhere, in prisons, in hotel work, in a coffee shop and of course inside SRF. This is true. However most places are not abusing people in your Guru’s name. It is a free country and everyone should have the right to serve their Guru in a way that does not harm other devotees. To pretend you are serving your Master while harming his devotees seems wrong.

Believe me, ALL monastics who have been there five or more years understand the place is no longer representing Master. What do they do with the information? There are many threads here describing their motives. Cowardice, laziness, fear, and of course the desire for power contribute to their reasons for staying.

Any monastic who has stayed through this last 4 years of the Great Purge have given up and will suffer seven life times of searching before they find their Guru again.

What a sad, heartbreaking story! Who would have ever dreamed? I always thought I was doing so much good by sending them my regular little donations.

Re: How Are Things Going?
Sending in your little donation just gives the bad ladies more time in power. You are telling them that their little games of power are working. You prolong the day when they will have to face up to what they have done to Yogananda's work.

When they run out of money, it will finally end.

WholeTruth,
I am surprised by your reaction. You have been a walrus reader since June according to your BIO when I click on your name. You didn't realize the impact your donations were having?

taking some of this thread to topic $1000.00 check
Hmmmm,

I believe a lot more can be said about how all, and each of the ex-monastics are faring... (is "god-realized" faye wright short on compassion....mother of compassion vs. mother of physical and emothional abuse and isolation).
Let's hear more as you have time.

Two monks who have left in the last 13 months have shared a bit with me. One appreciated a hundred check from me while my checking acct. was briefly and slightly bloated....

(Any nun or monk whom I may help out, who is out.....again whom i may help out, as they have helped all of us in the past, email me <heypoet@aol.com>..if my checking acct. has any of its occassional fat i will send a check)

...
The second is either optomistic, in denial, full of support from many/willing to ask for and share support....or most likely a combination of all.
In connection with both these monks.....one of whom I am close to and always will be I will say this.
We are all shattered and spiritually homeless. we are all the follower-a-holics of the srf is the "religion of the new age."

Hi I am Dave I am a devotee-holic formerly slavish to srf.

you all respond....Hi Dave

I say this because though I try to be "clean and sober"/open and heart-guided, I slip, and I do deny the extent of this tradegy.
crogman1 thank you, there is more in your entry that you and other might elaborate on, for example,
.....yes the community is responsible for treatment nuns and monks receive, if not before awareness, after becoming aware of the stories here and in general circulation, certain, crogman1, i agree the community is reponsible, especially those writing any checks to srf.........
pilgrim's entry asks for more insight to nuns and monks who have left situations....specifically to the on writing the post, keep asking..!!!!
...get a more open and complete discussion to begin on this board, and in our hearts and friendships.

I have received a check from a family for $1000.00 for community, from their appreciation for the years I spent giving hospitality within a community and with srf. The check is not for me, it is for "community." There is more to this, a bit more, than I am posting here.

I am starting a new topic about this check, about the walrus board, about community, my family, my life and me. And most importantly about this generous family, and the loving and generous friends and people working outside of organizations and IN their hearts, families, friends and communities.
Many of you mean more to me than you will ever know, sort of like all the 200 children (whom the man i assume is py's child, B. E., and his wife helped on their shoe string budget) must feel towards the couple helping them throughout their lives!
Though i speak of being a srf holic (the AA experience) life is beautiful, with many, including you all, we are moving forward.
crogman1 and pilgrim asking from their heart how are the exiled monastics of srf faring, pls continue.......
...i like it, i love it, i want more of it

the new topic "for community $1000.00" is found in
meeting place/community

Crogman1:

I was talking about "in the past." I haven't contributed to SRF in almost two years. Relax. I'm not that goofy!

Re: How Are Things Going?
Soulcircle,
I know many stories and situations but choose to protect the privacy of those who have left. I think we owe them that. Please don't spread around names and damaging stories of mental illness. We owe formers a lot due to our past support of the bad ladies.

The bad ladies don't deserve the same privacy because they are the "doers" and are the root of the problem. They are the pretenders. Be kind to the victims.
