Were layoffs canceled?
From what I can tell on their board there were originally some layoffs at Christmas in 2002, maybe a few here and there but no big layoffs right after convocation like everyone feared? Is that correct?

Re: Were layoffs canceled?
Cutbacks seem to include a combination of attrition, layoffs occasional enough not to generate much bad publicity, cuts in hours, cuts in pay, no raises (enough concern generated to make many employees feel they're lucky to still have a job), and increased employee contribution for medical coverage. They seem to be waiting to see how well online ordering does, too.

Re: Were layoffs canceled?
I understand the next "wave" of layoffs will be after the second session of OIS ("Organizational Introspection and Slowdown.") Originally planned in November; may now be delayed since Bro. Vishwananda (and Br. Heinz) are in India. Some estimates are 80-100 more employees will be "pruned" from SRF, to make the 40% cuts in each department. Good luck to all those left, and good luck to all the monastics who will have to do the work of those let go!
