J. Krishnamurti
What does anyone know about J. Krishnamurti? I came across a pictorial biography of sorts, about him in the library. He seems like he was a really interesting fellow, very humble and very much into the self being the guide. His approach to spirituality is spare (maybe that's not the right word), but intriguing nonetheless.

I had spoken to my Aikido sensei regarding meditation and spiritual practice....lo and behold he brings in a book by Krishnamurti, "This Light in Oneself...True Meditation." I've just started it and it takes some real contemplation on my part to understand his perspective.

Any comments would be appreciated...

I LOVE J. Krishnamurti. My favorite writings of his are "You are the World", "Freedom From the Known", and the "Commentaries on Living" (a three volume set). I can't say enough about his writings.

Re: J. Krishnamurti
I'm having to read the book I have right now, "This Light in Oneself," VERY slowly. He has such a "bare-bones" kind of approach to spirituality, rather intellectual, but I like it. I've always had a hard time with the "devotion" aspect of my spiritual life and in his way, it seems that is not so prominent. It reminds me a lot of the things one of my friends tells me about Gurdieff's writing.

Re: J. Krishnamurti
J. Krishnamurti is the man that helped me to question the spiritual hierarchy of SRF. I think his teachings are very relevant to the Walrus community considering many here are trying to break free from the oppression they've experienced with SRF. He was simply a philosopher and not a guru trying to sell meditation techniques. So no need to have your guard up when you read his material -- you don't have to worry about something being pawned off on you as 'the path to Truth' with a price-tag attached. Also there's no line of gurus to bow down to or anything of that nature. I consider him a spiritual deprogrammer; he simply takes your beliefs away while not adding any of his own in the process. This just leaves the Truth behind. Very effective and "clean" approach. The only other person that I know of who has successfully pulled off this approach on such a scale is the Buddha.
