Eckart Tolle
ok I know hes only one of many but having seen a video of one of his addresses and listened to a few talks by him I like his simple straightforward presentation of the teaching.

Please take a look and let me know your opinions if any?

Re: Eckart Tolle
He stole his ideas from the bible and Jesus. On stillness:"Be still and know that I am God." On the power of now: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

No, he did not steal anything. Actually he's just one teacher expressing the universal truths in his own way (like everyone else), but if you look in the gospels or the autobiography, you'll find the same teachings. I guess if you did not find inspiration in them, or in Deepak, or any other teacher that comes along every year, you could be inspired or reminded of these truths by the unique way Eckart expresses them.

I'm actually teaching a class on Eckhart's book The Power of Now right now. I adore his teachings. As a former student of Buddhism (before finding Master), I see Eckhart's teachings as the truths of Buddhism lifted out of 2600 years of cultural trappings laid on since the Buddha left the planet.

In my own humble opinion, Eckhart is an enlightened Master. He's giving a teaching that's new and updated for today, one that, like redpurusha said, is simple and easy to grasp. There's no secret teachings with him, no esoteric practice. Just be, just watch your thoughts and allow them to quiet.

Beautiful.

As a student of Yogananda do you feel pulled between ET's practice and Kriya,I know one can use both avenues, its just that I hate having my feet in 2 boats or in my case about 6:rollin

I don't feel pulled at all... In fact, I've found that Eckhart's teachings have only enhanced my Kriya pracice. Eckhart doesn't teach "meditation" in the normally-understood meaning. He doesn't teach meditation techniques, I mean. He teaches one to simply focus on staying conscious of what the mind is doing, to stay as "the watcher" or the "indwelling presence," as the Upanishads call it. When I put this into use during my Kriyas, I find I get amazing results.

Eckhart teaches that there's nothing to "accomplish" or to "get," and that anything that you're looking for to happen in the future, even Self-Realizaion, will NEVER come. There is no past and future, there is only the present moment, and it's the only time when we can make any change or have any power.

The way I apply this to Master's teachings is such: I am focused on being totally present in EVERY Kriya, EVERY SINGLE Hong-Sau. I look at each Kriya with the attitude that "This is the Kriya that will send me into Samadhi," and I must be totally focused on it, or I'll miss out.

Eckhart is a Master, So is Yogananda. Their teachings are the same in essence, and the practices are complimentary, from my own experience... But, if you find that trying to follow too many teachers is thinning out your devotion or focus, like (to quote Bilbo Baggins) "butter scraped over too much bread," then you should just stick with Master. He's got it ALL right there, if you look closely. ;)

Shanti
