Our Lady of Passive-Aggressiva
The truth is often more exotic than any textbook explanation. Unfortunately, we've been conditioned in SRF to think in black-and-white terms.

Whatever quality you see in the persona, its opposite is often lurking in the shadow. The "anger" that I and others detect in the Matas is sublte --- softly smoldering like a stick of incense. It may be so unconsious that it manifests passive-aggressively and no one, not even them, would be easily able to detect its presence. Look for clues: Do you sense an air of superiority about them? Do you detect any disdain for the common man? Annoyance, displeasure, irritation or impatience -- but candy-wrapped? Listen intuitively beyond the words. Listen to the judgementalism in their voices. Follow the arc of their logic. Where does it lead? How do you feel after you hear them speak? Do they satisfy your concept of what it means to be integrated?

I recognize Mrinalini's love for Master. It is tremendous and sometimes even inspiring. But I also see her issues. Same with the other Matas. They're the "Mary" type. Always hanging at Jesus' feet while Martha conscientiously feeds the guests. Impressive in their devotion, they are nevertheless horrible examples of what it means to be a compassionate, empathic, integrated member of a community. What are we supposed to take from this and apply to the real world?

If we were living in feudal times, the Mata's would make perfect sense. Their way of expressing their devotion reeks and stinks of extreme medieval romanticism. Please!!! I want to be a modern streamlined yogi. I want science and progress and a membership with a spiritual movement on the cutting edge of the times. Ever read our guru's "Increasing the Power of Initiatve"? Master was an innovator. And what do we see in the Matas except constant nostalgia for places long ago and far away -- a never-ending stream of cute little St. Bernadettisms. I'm suffocating!!!

I don't want another Catholic Church, but if these ladies don't resolve their fixations, that's what we're going to get. Furthermore, their refusal to acknowledge the times, their very act of subjecting us to a feudal view of the world is a supreme act of passive aggressivenes. Are we living in the 21st century. Look around. Come on ladies!!! Get off your high horses and plant your feet relevant ground.
