For those of you who are not supervisors at SRF, or know one well, you may not know of the cruel cowardly treatment which might be called the “slow down technique”. If SRF leadership decides you are no longer part of the team, and it is easy to get off the OK list, you find out through the dreaded “slow down” and are expected to realize it yourself and then quit. Very cowardly and very cruel. No second chance, no opportunity to find out what is wrong, no idea of what you did.

Projects you wish to start or continue are canceled, budgets delayed, raises for your people held up, and you are uninvited from planning meetings or not included in projects in obvious ways to help you get the idea. This treatment is pervasive and even goes on at Convocation, but is a primary means of dealing with people by SRF management (Uma Mata and her peers).

We all know the wonderful hard cover Gita was published a few years ago and how inspirational the book is. The Publications Center Management requested a project a while back to sell a paperback copy. Unfortunately the cruel “slow down” was in place at the time and they were trying to force these managers out, so the paperback Gita was one of the casualties. All ideas from these managers were bad, so this was canceled with the reason “no, it costs money”.

Once these managers left, in January of this year, the project was started back up. And now we see a paperback Gita. In case you missed the point of this story the paperback Gita was held up as part of the effort to force out two managers at the SRF Publications Center. Should managers who would do something like that, or allow it to be done, be acceptable to the Membership?

Some people more closely involved with SRF recognize that SRF management is a little less human than most, but they don’t see what harm this does. Well here is a concrete example of a book of Master’s being held up for petty office politics. What is the cost to the work of this book being held up for 2 years? What of the moral cost of having people like this in charge?
