Purpose of this Board
This message was from a thread buried in another section. I have copied it here so I can find it in the future! It was originally from 'srflongago' and posted 10/16/02:
Quote:
I see SRF Walrus as providing a forum for those who have substantial concerns about SRF and how well it performs its role of fostering spritual atainment.

All Walrus participants are dedicated to this aim of Kriya Yoga as Yogananda taught it.

But many say that SRF has had had a very negative effect on their lives.

Many say that its senior nuns and monks show few signs of sprituality.

Many say that those in charge and without much life experience try to control the lives of everyone else.

Many say the administration mistreats its employees, members or not.

Many say that fellow devotees and leaders not part of SRF are reviled within SRF.

Many say that they cannot see that Yogananda's writings and intentions are being followed.

WALRUS is for those troubled by such concerns.

It is inevitable that Yogananda is perceived differently by different posters. Almost none of them knew him. Time has a way of revealing the truth.

Re: Purpose of this Board
I wish we could all move messages around but I suppose that would create a lot of chaos!

I feel the benefit of this board is the sharing of information about the true nature of what SRF has become. For those devotees who will never have much interaction with SRF, there is no need. Read the books by Yogananda (not the bad ladies) and work on yourself.

For those contemplating giving up your present situation, job, family or moving close to SRF this board is a warning. They are a disappointing mind control cult that has hijacked the name of a great Yogi. Save yourself a lot of trouble and keep away. Disappointing is probably not a strong enough word.

This board also seems to help many of us discuss our experience and maybe helps us learn something about ourselves and the pain we have gone through.

Re: Purpose of this Board
I want to toss in my two cents worth to the quoted statements made by SRFLONGAGO.

I see SRF Walrus as providing a forum for those who have substantial concerns about SRF and how well it performs its role of fostering spiritual attainment. I agree to a degree. For myself I no longer see that SRF has a role in fostering Yogananda’s devotees. In the future when the current organization is done and gone a loose coalition of Yogananda followers may call themselves SRF at some point, but the central Catholic cult like control structure maintained by mind numbed monastics is no longer appropriate. Think people. Why is that org necessary?

All Walrus participants are dedicated to this aim of Kriya Yoga as Yogananda taught it. Well, some former SRF people have been so burned that they have been turned against the whole thing. This is one of many crimes the bad ladies have been guilty of. For myself I am still devoted to Yogananda and his true teachings but not to SRF.

But many say that SRF has had had a very negative effect on their lives. YES YES YES this is true.

Many say that its senior nuns and monks show few signs of spirituality. YES YES YES this is true.

Many say that those in charge and without much life experience try to control the lives of everyone else. YES YES YES this is true.

Many say the administration mistreats its employees, members or not. This is how many Walrusites got to be here. More stories than are here can be found by asking former members and monastics. To be honest many of the stories are not easily believed they are so bad. For a cult to pretend it is a religion and treat people so poorly is like science fiction.

Re: Purpose of this Board
We're going back to the original purpose of the board which is:

------------------------------------------------------------
"The purpose of this board is to air out problems, help each other ... Many things are happening behind closed doors or to people who are suffering quietly and alone." ~ srfwalrus (8/2/01 7:24 am)
------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------
"Open forum for the discussion of SRF (Mt.Washington - Los Angeles), it's practices, goals, and relationship to members and monastics/employees. Our aim is to help each other, provide an alternative source for information about SRF, and allow us all to share our opinions." ~ srfwalrus original mission statement (date unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------

To accommodate for this I'm allowing a broader range of discussion, meaning that you can say more what you really feel regardless of whether I agree with it or not.

When I came to this board a few months ago I was warned that I should not talk about certain topics, so I have remained silent and will continue to do so, even though it has never been my nature to keep quiet about things that I know to be true.
