Re: By-laws Mystery: True or False
I got my editions mixed up. In the 1956 AY, while Premananda is gone, it still has the Anandamoyi Ma story about the husband and more extensive mention of the colonies. The 1959 AY still mentions the colonies, but the Ma story is gone, and by 1968, the colony is mentioned only in the limited context of monastics.

1956 AY has the Aims and Ideals of SRF inserted for the first time. I liked in the earlier Whispers of 1952 and before, where at the end of the book, there's a page stating that SR is not a denomination, includes all, asking no one their religion, welcoming all truth, just calling all to journey in fellowship on the one road of inner realization.

Re: To True Enuf
Hello Parabastha and True Enuf,

don't know if this will help any.

I have two editions of AY that Tru Enuf did not list. Both have the original spelling of Masters name as the author and in the signature.

(A) an undated edition from Rider & Company. This contains an Oct 25, 1949 Note to the London Edition written by Paramhansa Yogananda. There are no dates under the Frontispiece photo of PY so I assume he was still in his body when this edition went to press. This is not a reprint.

(B) 7th printing(1963) of the June 1950 Edition from Rider & Company. This contains a Sept 1, 1955 American Editors note to the London Edition.

Of the list of items to check that Parabastha gave all are in both books except for:

1) The entire poem "Samadhi" (chapter 14) is present but two lines have been reversed in order.

7) The mention to the "Shyama Charan Lahiri Mahasaya Mission" (chapter 40): "In the decade since 1935, Ranchi has enlarged its escope far beyond the boys' school. Widespread humanitarian activities are now carried on there in the Shyama Charan Lahiri Mahasaya Mission."

this has been changed in both to read
"the activities at Ranchi have enlarged there escope far beyond the boys' school and now include broad humanitarian services."

9) PY' and Dr. Lewis's long talk about "world-brotherhood colonies" (chapter 48)

in (A) this talk is present in (B) Dr Lewis's talk has been replaced with a few lines of text that mention that several such colonies have been started in California

(B) is a very strange book. Although trying to appear as a 1950 edition, the last chapter (48) is titled "The years 1937 - 1951" It does contain the posed picture of Sister Daya, the picture of PY wearing the cross, contains the cross, and the picture of Lahiri has the painted cloth to cover his bear chest. Also the poem "OM-The Soundless Roar" is included after the last chapter.

Dear friends,
I would like to thank you all for the care used in the searches!
I believe there are many old editions to discover and compare.

I have the 1971 italian edition.

However, my personal questions and doubts are:

.if PY during his life, had retained that Kriya initiation
had to have done only from SRF monks, why Himself did not published on SRF magazines?

. mostly, after His mahsamadhi, why SRF did not published immediatly this changement on SRF magazines?

PY wanted SRF as Kriya popularization, so these confused information are incomprehensibles.

Please continue the searches.

Re: By-laws Mystery: Kriya teachers
Dear truenuf; youwrote;
"Lobo, during the copyright trial against Ananda, SRF submitted a load of documentation, maybe all they could lay their hands on, to prove their case. It is reasonable to conclude that if they had written proof of Master's wishes that kriya be taught solely by SRF authorized kriyabans/ministers, it would've been near the top of that document list, as it would strengthen their assertion that SRF is the main or only vehicle for dispensing the teachings. Hmmm...."

this may not be correct for following reasons;

Since the transmission and teaching of Kriya does not have to be in written materials and forms, and is often done personally at some point, it would not serve any purpose for SRF to present documents to the courts re that issue.
Yet Yogananda did set out his wishes on this matter in various other documents stating that devotees should get their kriya via SRF and/of SRF lessons. And that Kriya teachers/initiators should be approved by the president of SRF. This is quite consistent with His emphasis on Kriyabans working with and through SRF.
This to me is a separate issue from those who decide to not work with PY and follow other teachers.
It may be another many years to see just how this all plays out for them.

Have you seen these letters documents He wrote to devotees?

I have the feeling your argument above has no proof in this discussion - like the apples and oranges thing.

The SRF did provide many, many of pieces of evidence for copy right matters however, and did a great job at that.
There was ample evidence that Yogananda wished & willed that SRF be His sole representative in these matters and in his written works.

Those who cherish Him as a great Yogi and as their Guru will surely honor his will.

Regards and respect Astral 7

Re: By-laws Mystery: Kriya teachers
It might have served plaintiff’s interests to broaden the scope of Master’s intent, to convince the presiding judge to allow it, while the defendant’s attorneys understandably would seek to exclude it as irrelevant. A good lawyer will introduce anything that can advance the case, requesting some latitude to establish the relevance of the seemingly unrelated. It is then up to the opposing counsel to object and the court to rule. What’s to lose? It’s done all the time. Of course if it’s overdone, the judge would issue a stern warning. So yes, it is apples to oranges, but when did that ever stop an attorney?

I wouldn’t characterize their handling of the copyright matter as ‘a great job’, in light of the outcome. Even with all the documentation, the case was not clear cut, took years to work through and still the verdict was mixed. It was however a major bonanza for the lawyers, whether they performed up to snuff or not.

"And that Kriya teachers/initiators should be approved by the president of SRF."

Why this particular letter/document has never surfaced for Master’s devotees throughout the world to view is beyond me.
