What was the reaction?
I'm wondering, those of you who are plugged in at Mother Center, what was the reaction at MC when the New Times articles first came out and all of SRF's dirty laundry was aired in public? Was there a large outcry from the members? Employees? Did people show up at MC with copies of the articles demanding explanations from SRF? Did people flood the phones with questions? I mean, stuff like Daya Mata living in luxury in Sierra Madre while everyone thought she was this poor meek sister living in poverty and simplicity at MC was a bombshell even for those of us far away from LA, but we can't just drive up to headquarters and see what's going on. Did the members who live in LA go up to MC and ask them directly? Did SRF offer any answers of explanations? Try to cover up some more or do damage control? Did they say anything in the temples on Sundays? Or was everything treated in typical "see no evil, hear no evil" SRF style? Did the monastics living in the ashrams find out? Do they have access to news? How did they react? I bet someone sneaked a copy of the New Times issue into the ashram and it spread like wildfire. Can anyone who knows what happened on the inside let us know what those first days/weeks were like? Has there been much aftermath as a direct result of the lid being blown off so publicly like this?

Re: What was the reaction?
It did cause a stir at MW. But for the most part it had been explained away like, "Master did say that evil forces would try to destroy the work." I don't think it is much discussed.

Did anyone pick up anything different?

Note the key phrases above:

"Master did say": this lends authenticity to any statement
"the work": the teaching for the new age

Many of my friends dismissed the articles entirely.

Re: What was the reaction?
I think the main reaction was to stonewall, attack New Times LA as a rag filled with porn therefore not to be believed, and they posted something on the SRF website about Daya Mata's wonderfulness, mentioning that she had used a house as a type of retreat for her writings.

I don't know about others (and I do live in LA) but I was frankly afraid to confront SRF about this in any way, shape or form. I don't really know what it was specifically that aroused my fear but that was the reason that I didn't call or show up to discuss the article. I guess I thought that I would be blacklisted or something, excommunicated from a path that I love dearly. Probably cowardly now that I think about it.

Inside
The article is poorly written and has some inaccuracies. Most don’t believe the Master-father thing and so the article is just weird attacks. It was not discussed much really.

The Faye living in another location issue was dismissed. It was explained as a retreat house and people accepted it. No one much cares if she lives there or not anyway. That they lie about it is just part of the normal culture inside and spinning is nothing new.

It was much more news on this board than inside the walls. Other than the goofy father thing, that article was peanuts compared to the stories you read here of the stuff that goes on.

core issues inside
I talked to a nun at SRF. They did get the article, but most don't believe it, while some think that Ben and Yogananda do look alike. Still, it is not believed because Yogananda is perfect--an avatar.
