as we work towards reform........
Guests and All,

as we work towards reform, and let's do [remember i attend richmond temple and convocations]....

let us continue to work equally on ourselves

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can, and

The wisdom to know the difference."

Step 10 begins laying the foundation for the rest of my life. It is a pledge to continually monitor my life with honesty and humility. It requires me to be vigilant against my addictive behavior and against the triggers for my addictive behavior. It requires me to be humble before my God who can keep me from my addictive behavior if I have the right attitude. It requires me to deal with my defects promptly when they arise and not to let them linger in my life.

a suggestion to reduce celebrity/monastic"worship"
Guests and All,

hmmmmm

what is Viswa's given name again?

i see him as just one person within the circle of life

let's take one step away from "celebrity worship" and address this/our letter/s to all [out of and] in the fellowship

at convocation ' 03 i am able to get it to attendees from the 50 or so countries attending :b

Re: pushed soulcircle's button
I am not so sure that we are sending it to Swami V. because we worship him, as much as it is that he is now in charge of things.

I am also thinking that maybe we would want to just write an introductory, and then send each persons' comments as they are, so that they would know that they are from Walrus. People could edit them if they choose, and if they choose, we would not send their's. Or we can summarize everything, and then refer him to the board for proof of where these ideas came from.

soulcircle,

You may be very right in that they don't care how many leave because people keep pouring in. Still, Borg and I like the idea, and so it seems that others do too. We would love things to change, to be heard, well, at least we will be heard.

re: srfaholic
contrast the serenity prayer to what Daya Mata says:

"Change not my circumstances, change me."

So, according to SRF we are supposed to have the wisdom to know that we are suppose to just "accept the things we cannot change" because WE CAN'T CHANGE THE THING CALLED SRF!

I lived my life by this piece of bullshit : "Change not my circumstances, change me." when I really should have changed lots of things. But being brainwashed like I was I didn't have the wisdom to know the difference.

I would love to have 12 step meetings - devotees anonymous. Does any one know if such an animal exists? Would anyone else like to participate in on line devotees anonymous meetings?

soulcircle,

This is it, the 12 step SRFaholic program. I am not sure what the 12 steps are though.

By the way, what do those who posted so far think of their just editing their posts and letting Borg and I know whose we can send? We need feedback. Thanks.

A 12-step program for those in or formerly in SRF--what an intriguing idea! That's probably a great idea. I think chela2020 is right that the Walrus is the closest thing you'll get to a 12-step program, but it's definitely not the same thing.

Poor opinion of the Walrus?
Senior nuns have a low opinion of the Walrus!?? My my! What a surprise. The feeling is obviously mutual so that is probably fair. The whole reason for the Walrus is years and years of poor behavior by the SRF leadership. Karma is real and does exist. Their poor behavior and the ridiculous culture that exists inside those walls creates it's own karma. That is certain.

I am delighted that they would acknowledge the existence of the Walrus and the more they stress how little they think of it just means that they are thinking of it often! We must be striking a nerve. Go get 'em Walrusites!

Re: 12 steps
1. We admitted we were powerless and that our lives had become unmanageable. 2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. 4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. 5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. 6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. 7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. 8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. 9. Made direct amends to such people where ever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. 10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. 11. Sought thorough prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to srfaholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

chuckle chela,

Nice assessment and presentation above of many key issues. I'd like to suggest that under Code of Ethics, we, as yogis, have the beginnings of them in the yamas (restraints) as given in the yoga sutras of Patanjali. The yamas are ahimsa (nonviolence in thought, word and deed. This is the most important of the yamas), satya (truthfulness, honesty), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya (usually translated as control of sexual passion, but which literally means "walking the path of God"), and aparigraha (non-hoarding).

Re: two notes
soulcircle,

I am not sure if you desire to have any post included in this letter to Swami Viswananda. Please let me know, and if so, which one?

Thank you.

KS,

Do you want the monastic comments that you gave us sent as they are, and under your name or Mo's?

include three suggestions
chela2020,

please include the three suggestions that i have made
you will find them in the following posts above

all three posts were on 2/20 and are in this thread
time:
1:55AM
2:03AM
2:07AM

AND if i may obtain a copy of the letter sent to the fear farm with everyone's suggestions including mine, i will distribute it widely at convocation this August, especially to those from the 50 or so countries who attend

also, unless you want this letter to be all seriousness, you might have a little humor and included something like the following warning be placed in all srf publications that are "edited" to the extent that in our minds they are revisions:

WARNING: Reading this publication has been shown to cause a variety of adverse side effects including, but not limited to, drowsiness, sleeplessness, headaches, nausea, euphoria, depression and low self-esteem, narcissistic behavior and an exaggerated sense of self importance, warts, abdominal cramps, short- and long-term memory loss, nearsightedness and hang ups about drinking caffeine. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery after reading. Avoid heavy lifting and independent thinking. Not for people without a good sense of humor. It is highly recommended that you read George Orwell’s Animal Farm prior to this publication. :rollin

Chela2020,
They won't know either name so it does not matter. I do agree with all the suggestions.

Re: include three suggestions
Soulcircle,

We will include all three of your postings. As for the humor, it is much appreciated. We can all use a good laugh, but this letter is supposed to be serious. Although maybe Swami Vishwananda would like a few laughs.

The letter has been completed and sent to Borg. I will now send him an update. He is looking over it for editing, and then we will post it and everyone else can have at it.

Now do you really want to distribute it at convocation? Ananda members did that, and that bothered me, but maybe others don't mind. After all, once it is out of our hands, we are not responsible for it.

I even thought of a clause in the letter: these suggestions are not accepted by all Walrus members, but then I wasn't sure if that would take too much away from the letter. My idea would rather be that we all agree to what is written.

Re: feedback
I wouldn't want to edit anyone else's heartfelt concerns and suggestions other than to perhaps correct typos. So I think it's important for everyone to look over what will be sent and edit their own postings if they would like to see any changes in them. Also, it's not too late for others to submit info for the letter.

Re: more info
chela2020,

If Mr Walrus doesn't mind, how about adding the following information posted by him to the letter?

Purpose of this Bulletin Board
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The purpose of this board is to air out problems, help each other, and help SRF. Many things are happening behind closed doors or to people who are suffering quietly and alone. An open discussion of the real current state of SRF might help the situation and get the organization Master started back on track.

That is really good. I don't think Walrus would mind, but we will check that out first. Where do you suggest I insert it in the letter?

Re: more info
Perhaps at the end of the first paragraph - or you could have it as the first of the attachments.

I just edited and added to my original posting to be included with the letter. Hopefully, others will do the same soon with their postings.
