Average visits WAY WAY up... why?
The average visits shot up starting Valentine's Day. Anyone have a clue as to why?

Average visits WAY WAY up... why.
to start the conversations....

1) SRF BOD "changes" with interest from other boards
2) Other boards discussions ranting against Walrus (negativity often creates awareness & interest)
3) Magnetism; the tone is more respectful while maintaining good depth of subjects
4) Walrus "editing" vs "censorship" issues
5) Number of interesting subjects
6) links through internet search engines increasing at greater rates
7) Aumkara's wedding invitations & replies!

Respectfully submitted with smiles,

Premdas

If if only a few visitors come to the board, but try to read all the messages, this would result in many visits to the board because there are so many messages.

What is a visit?
I have tried to find out the defintion of a "visit". From my tests it appears that each time you open the board and read messages that is one visit. If you don't move around in the board for 15 to 20 minutes, then open another message, that is probably considered another visit.

A single computer could read the whole board, if they moved fast enough, and be considered a single visit.

If you open the Walrus several times a day then each of those is considered a separate visit.

If you read a long message then take 20 minutes to type up a reply (without moving around in the board), then reply, that is probably considered two visits.

On a day when there are 1000 visits listed considering the above rules is is probably a few hundred people at least looking at the board. Some of you seem to be on the board at many times of the day, which would generate a lot of visits, some come only quickly to read the recent messages.

walrus...you seem to get upset whenever your board visits go up...you've written several times about it and it sounds like your board's increasing popularity is bothering you...like when you said "who the heck are all these people"...most board admins love it when they get more people and more hits...could it be you were not ready for the "big time"...you didn't know what you were getting yourself into?...are you in over your head?

Nope, not upset at all. Surprised, I think. Pleased, but bemused, perhaps nonplussed. And wondering, especially since the change is so big and so sudden. Maybe it's that "100 monkeys" thing someone else posted about.

Why?
Probably has to do with Vishwananda taking administrative control of SRF/YSS and the desire to have more info about the events surrounding it.

Re: Average visits WAY WAY up... why?
My first post here. About two months ago I heard about the Walrus from some devotees at Lake Shrine. When I got on the site I was quite impressed, and I told a bunch of people about it. To my knowledge, however, none of them has posted to the board, at least not yet. Well, I'm supposed to be registered and all that good stuff so I can post here. Hope this works. If so, I'll try to say something more pertinent next post. In Master, Paramadas

Average visits down after requiring registering
These are the statistics for the Walrus board ending May 11th. Note that the number of new messages is way down since we requiring people to register. I personally think this has had a good impact on the tone of the board.

Re: Average visits down after requiring registering
The following words are from an ex monk friend of mine:

"In time I would think that Walrus would slow down as people realize that nothing really changes too dramatically.

SRF Board of Directors don't take it seriously as it is full of negativity and malcontents and they have way too much arrogance to listen anyway-----so it really does nothing to change things.

SRF will go the way it always has until enough top-people pass on or people stop giving money---one of the two.
But at least it helps those that wake up to get good perspectives---that in itself is a great service.

Orthodox SRFers wouldn't see it anyway--as it is too disturbing and dangerous for their peace of mind.
Plus people who read Walrus are all over the place spiritually
anyway---so you get all types with different agendas---but again that is good, because you get different perspectives on what people are like out there. With out that people just assume that others think like they do".

Thanks, Kevin. Nice post. When I first began contributing here my intent was to change SRF. Now it doesn't matter. I simply post here to help others understand and help broaden my own understanding. I've received many messages from people telling me they've been helped by some of my messages. I know they aren't all "positive" but they do reflect me, mistakes and all. ;)
