Who is he
Can someone give a brief description of Terry? Who is he? What does he do besides being in the management group. Is he older, a long time disciple? Quiet, speaker at a temple, vocation before he entered the ashram? What kind of guy is he?

Where does he stand on these issues? Does he know about these problems I see here and doesn't believe or is he hoping to be promoted, does he see himself as loyal, what?

Terry can answer himself if he wishes.

Who is he?
I believe Terry was a rich kid who grew up without too much responsibility in the real world before entering the ashram. Once in the ashram he adapted well and made an effort to stay out of harms way. He tells the monks they need to “learn how to play the system” and stay out of trouble. He usually didn’t have too much responsibility within the ashram until recently. He has had a direct line, although limited, to our president and acts as a “secretary” (which means staff clerk in SRF speak). This, as much as anything else, tells us that the “bad ladies” consider him harmless and loyal to them. They step on people if they get to close to the president without these qualities.

Those are not really bad qualities, accept that the “bad ladies” also are able to feed him all kinds of excuses which he readily believes. It is possibly part of staying out of harms way, or playing the system. He doesn’t strike people as particularly courageous and would never be expected to give a talk on moral courage. He likes the quiet life style and probably considers the ashram a life long boys camp.

All in all he is a very likeable guy, probably one of the more likeable of his generation of monks who have survived this last year. Not a big ego, caring in most cases, and a nice guy to work with.

In the past year he was promoted to the management committee as part of the effort to pad it with some token men. He is not listened to by the women on the committee, which is possibly a little frustrating for him, but probably not too much. He is not one to try to push for change. I suspect that he is so naive that he doesn’t even realize that his management committee position is just a token position. But he has no ambitions to power or fame anyway (a good thing) and so probably would not care anyway.

I suspect that he will be totally confused as to why he might be singled out on this board.

Singled out?
He's not being singled out. His name is here because he's been assigned to monitor this board. He is a line of communication. Perhaps he will learn from listening.

Listening?
30 of his fellow monastics have left in the last months and he might listen to this board? He is firmly in denial. Head buried. Breathing sand.

He is in a position to have made a difference too. There is a special torture for those people when they pass on and realize what they had an opportunity to do, but instead "took a life off" and watched things go downhill.

The Terry I know was an OK guy. Really good basketball player in his day. Trekked New Zealand prior to monastic life. Likes sports. Etc.

Yes, I knew him to be a pretty good guy too. Kind of getting sucked up into the weird stuff the last I knew, but basically a good guy. His only problem is he is gullible and is not thinking for himself. He is sort of a civil service monastic.
