SRF Walrus lack of activity
I've been cruising the site the last week or so and there doesn't seem to be any activity. Is everyone on vacation?

Re: SRF Walrus lack of activity
Lobo...

I think there might be a couple things to consider regarding this...One is that at least a couple of recently active posters are off the board completely (to my knowledge). One felt that the board (for them in particular) was too hostile, and the other had difficulty moving on into a new practice while participating on the Walrus.

I myself have moved on more or less as well. I'm investigating Zen, which is very much to my liking and feels like a good fit. SRF is the past for me. The board has helped, in some ways, but I was already well on my way out before I even ventured here. Maybe it's the same for others as well.

Perhaps for those that are still interested in creating another way to practice and still hold PY as their guru, this forum could help to form alliances. I have this thought that either the board will die out completely or that there will be new groups coming in, finding what they need and moving on, in cycles.

What with the publicity release by SRF to the LA Times regarding the Erskine paternity issue, many may feel that they are satisfied (with the issue of PY's qualifications and character) and need not indulge in this forum. But I'm only guessing about this.

Re: SRF Walrus lack of activity
I hope you are wrong gardendiva.

I just got here recently and have been busy trying to catch up with the current level of information offered here.

Yesterday I wrote a message that delt with the concept of what to do . A checklist of sorts, to get results from SRF. I then thought I should be sure that I am not posting something that has already been said by someone else.
Well, I decided to read the rest of the site before I get bold and tell everyone how to 'fix it.'

The problem is that I have easily put 40 hours between this site, yogananda-dif, Yoganandarediscovered, and @nanda, all of which I didn't even know existed up until about two weeks ago. I have missed lots sleep reading this site, working fulltime and being a family man.

To say that this site is troubling is an understatement for me. I hate what I have discovered here.
I had no idea.
I don't know what to believe.

There are so many things I want to say but...
It is coming soon... I must assimilate first...
For now, must sleep so I can work... sleep...

I have missed too many meditations reading how my church is no better than the catholic farce.

Maybe there has been a lack of activity here of postings.. but I have come to know many of you in these last couple of weeks. I hope most of you are still around because I have things I want to ask some of you. I don't really have anyone I know that I can talk to about Yogananda even more so these subjects.

bye for now =-)

NonSwamiji....

If you see a poster that you want to reply to, but it looks like they're not posting or online anymore, you can click on their name and see if their private message tool is enabled. If so, you can always send a personal message to them for correspondence. It's hard to tell who's coming to the board anymore.

Re: SRF Walrus lack of activity
Gardendiva,

I think you have probably summarized the reasons for the lack of activity correctly. It does seem to go in flourishes, the old ebb and flow. Many of the original posters have never come back, sorta like a comet streaking through the night sky.

I wish you well on the path of the dharma. I, too have been reading quite a bit of the teachings of the Awakened One and find some of the teachers of that venerable tradition very much where I'm at, at this point in my path. For instance, Sharon Salzberg's book, LOVING-KINDNESS, The Revolutionary Art of Happiness has been like a healing balm to my fevered mind and soul. It covers the subject of METTA, or loving-kindness and offers many traditional meditations to do that are very healing; both for one's self and for all others (a particular aspect of Buddhism that I find quite right, as I'm seeing the practice of meditation for the sole liberation of myself to be selfishly narrow and constrictive.)

An excerpt from the book:

"Sometimes we think that to develop an open heart, to be truly loving and compassionate, means that we need to be passive, to allow others to abuse us, to smile and let anyone do what they want with us. Quite the contrary. Compassion is not at all weak. It is the strength that arises out of seeing the true nature of suffering in the world. Compassion allows us to bear witness to that suffering, whether it is in ourselves or others, without fear; it allows us to name injustice without hesitation, and to act strongly, with all the skill at our disposal. To develop this mind state of compassion, the second of the brahma-viharas, is to learn to live, as the Buddha put it, with sympathy for all living beings, without exception."

Hope you path is fruitful, Gardendiva, and may you become enlightened in this life!

Namaste

Non Swamiji,

Don't worry about no one engaging you with your struggles. Most of those of us who've been posting here for awhile still post, as Gardendiva says, it's a rhythmical thing, just a recent fallow period.

I wish you well with your concerns. There is much to read here, and at those other sites you mentioned. The way you described your oydessy before coming here is the way I too came here.

I didn't know any of this stuff existed until I went on-line about 3 years ago. And when I first came across the yogananda-dif site I was so angry at SRF and Daya Mata; but I was also relieved that someone else was not only feeling the same sense of dissatisfaction with what's been done in Master's name, but also had the guts to post it up on the web for all to see!

Anyway, don't lose sleep over it, that's just my advise. When you wish to post, that will be the right time for you to do so, and you will have the input and support of those fellow devotee's who've been there and can contribute to your journey to clarity regarding these topics.

For myself I am not sure what else I can say. If a new topic comes up I may jump in. Once some of the leadership passes away and the cat fight for power starts that might be entertaining and provide some topics.

I do wonder why any monastics and employees are still there. They must be a blind or lazy group of people. If they all would only leave this would be over. They are supporting the bad ladies and allowing them to continue.

Substance vs. Activity
I haven't been here in a while; I do have other pursuits. I would encourage substantive posts rather than simply board activity. This board has helped many people, myself included, "get over" SRF, if that is what people choose to do. Or at least increase their understanding.

A lot is written here. There are some very well thought out posts. My perspective on the board's purpose is that it is here to help people move on with their lives. (And help people realize that SRF is not perfect.) People may find that their "taboo" thoughts are shared in this forum; they may not feel alone. Once over this hangup, they can move on.

We all strive for the same goal, I feel. I feel we are all friends struggling along that "razor's edge". Sometimes it's simply helpful to share our thoughts and struggles. But the point would be to not get stuck.

This board is about God helping God. Peace. :)
