Whence the name?
Language has power. When/who coined the name "mother center"? Given the rich meaning/significance of these two words on our path, "mother" & "center", we'd expect better application/practice of expansive & forgiving Love with respect for all. Ironic and sad. And for being in one's center, how about this quote from Samhadi: "From Joy I came, for joy I live, in sacred joy I melt again." The BOD and their immediate subordinates aren't exhibiting his basic tenets, i.e. the greater the will, the greater the flow of energy, the greater the flow of energy, the greater the magnetism. On the whole, I don't feel magnetic joy from them, nor do I see/feel their attunement with Yogananda and his writings. Neither do I get inspired by the lack of examples of energy that he would have encouraged (such as getting his words and writings out earlier than 45-50 years!). I'm being harsh here; but this is why I've been severing my connections. I don't feel Divine Mother Centered there. I'm sharing this with others so they know it is all right not to go through these people to accept and embrace Yogananda! Saying this, it is by grace that I have been blessed to have real guidance and satsang with individuals sincerely striving in their attunement with the guru.

the name
Maybe I am the only one who has noticed, but I always was sure the name was a rip off of Christian Science. Another "new age" religion around for a while that SRF has tried to copy. I never heard of Master using mother center; he always said headquarters. Those old ladies probably thought that sounded too military. The main church in Boston is the mother center for Christian Science. People have written about the mormon connection; what about this connection? maybe it's nothing more than stealing the name.

Re: the name
Oldtimer, one of my first posts on this board questioned the name "Mother Center" also. I've heard Master speak of Mt. Washington by its name and also headquarters or even "hive," but never this term. I hate referring it to as "mother center" after listening to one of Yogananda's speeches.

Its SRF headquarters or Mt. Washington, as Master called it, period. "Mother Center" implies a favortism toward the female aspect of God and the teachings. Yogananda's teachings are above male and female, he called it what Spirit within him inspired him to call it and what loyal disciple is going to change that? Not me.

Re: the name
I was just thinking over this topic. Do you guys know when and who decided to call the headquarters "Mother Center" I can only guess Daya Mata when she became president but I don't know.
Also, I was thinking of why give the name, when we get a reply in the mail from SRF or any other letter, its signed "Mother Center." This takes away the responsibility on the specific individual who responed or wrote the letter, like they do in corportations in order to protect any single individual. I admit I would rather have the monastic or person responding to me or writing to me, to sign his name, but thats just not the way it works unfortunately.

Re: the name
In a letter to a devotee dated in the early forties, Margaret Bricker, who had just succeeded Orpha Sahly (later to be named Sraddha Mata) as head of Center Dept, did refer to headquarters as "Mother Center." It would appear that term really caught on a decade or two hence...
