50th Anniversary of Master's Mahasamadhi
I wonder how friends here at Walrus are noting or planning for the 50 year passing of Yogananda? What can/should (!) this board do? How can we serve Master's work and what discussions/topics might serve our Guru's legacy? How might we effectively continue the battle against the BOD's behavior? How might we best get this Board's message out to other devotees? to the greater Yoga community? "new-age" community? to the press? I want to add that I believe this forum serves as a predominately healthy venue for remembering PY's original direction for his and the Masters' work. Happy Master's Birthday (Jan.5), many ones! Re: comments on what to do
How sad that (only) 50 years after Master's passing we're dealing with these issues. Perhaps it's significant.

Right now, I think the Walrus board is serving a very good and perhaps sufficient function. And, as others have pointed out, we can send out emails (which can be anonymous) from this board to others. This is good.

I think that involving the wider yoga community may not be of much value, except to learn how they have dealt with these kinds of issues. I don't want to slag SRF (or Ananda or anyone else) in a wider public forum, which is how this all might be mistakenly perceived.

I feel the same, but even more strongly, about the press. First, I don't think it's necessary at this point. Let's work out our issues in-house, so to speak. Second, SRF doesn't seem to know how to handle the media very well, and they would only react badly, I fear, to media exposure. This is to no one's advantage. Third, it would increase the fear and paranoia at Mother Center; this also, serves no one.

At some point, it may be advisable to expand the knowledge out to a wider community. This will have to be done carefully, with a full understanding of the implications. I don't think that time is now. I hope it is never necessary. However, I do fear, as I have stated before, that if Mother Center doesn't start acknowledging these issues and taking to people, the crisis will only get worse for them.

I thank you for your well thought out reply. I'm mostly on the fence regarding exactly what to do in terms of going public. I also firmly believe the future of Master's work requires us to have strength in the face of BOD beligerance, ignorance, callousness. I believe that if they're aware of these concerns on this board, they are hoping that they will either quietly pass or that they can "assist" them in passing. They count on us as loyal devotees not to discuss or question their actions (and if we do, we are no longer loyal devotees, IOW, not devotees at all). That is the reason I also believe there has to be a reckoning of forces. What is it they fear? What is it they respond to? See my post in Walrus newletter section re: Yogananda Revisited experience. My perspective is colored by SRF BOD's adharmic behavior toward Ananda (see much else here on Walrus), and from what I read re: like treatment of others more independent than they'd prefer). I do believe the greater issue is the future of PY's work and legacy, and it is very significant that this is the 50th year. While we might disagree on procedure, I agree with you in spirit. I may not sound this way, but I'm usually siding with softness and a more genteel approach...it's just that SRF BOD believes they can take and determine my and my family's discipleship and life service to Master (and his spiritual children, chelas), and declare them as null and void. They are drastically wrong. Their behavior, especially because they use Master's name, is reprehensible. I have had no choice but to fight. My comments are posted here for your consideration. Look what we did and believed we had to do. Did they have an effect. Was it positive/negative? What were/are the consequences. Divine Mother is always at work, in us individually, at all times. I accept my karma in this battle. I accept the warrior role DM is playing through me. I do it for Master, more than for me. In divine friendship, Premdas

Going Public
I am not sure what going public might mean to you all, but I am all for more people being part of the discussion. The SRF BOD will, and has, over reacted to it which only leads to more people seeing them for what they are. Push the injustice, poor behavior, and cult values in their face so they can’t ignore them. They will react. It is a necessary step for healing.

How did Gandhi handle the British? He provoked them with simple harmless acts which highlighted their own attitudes and behavior. Public opinion forced a change.

There is no chance we will harm Yogananda and his message. Even SRF says that is impossible.
