This is called Kriya. And it can ruin a good pair of sandals."

the word kriya comes from the sanskrit root kri meaning action or to do or to be. It is one of those root words with a whole lot of different meanings

In hatha yoga, there are cleansing kriyas. A good text is Hatha Yoga Pradipika published by Bihar school of yoga. (they have a web site) (they also publish their kriya yoga lessons. (their kriya yoga is pranayam while in hatha yoga positions)

A newer version of the cleansing kriya you site in your message is the saline laxatives that are sold in the drug stores. Doctors require that these be used before intestinal procedures (colonoscopy, etc) The same principle is used.
