Spring 2003 Magazine- Heels dug in?
Quite a revealing issue! No articles by monks, virtually no pictures of monks (little pictures of Bimalananda and Achalananda)

The Daya Mata and Mrinalini Mata articles seemed as if they were specifically selected to counter some of the Walrus questions. Then there's the UN/Sister Priya event, and letters between a devotee and MC/Daya Mata.

Might one call this, putting it in terms that Amidala of Coruscant surely would appreciate, "The Empire Strikes Back"?

Remember that only about 8000 people worldwide get the magazine. Not too many would see them strike back. I am certain that items in this board make more of an impact than they should only because of the disturbed paranoid nature of the SRF leadership.

How can it only be 8000?

Figures for Winter 2002 indicate:

Total run: 33,271-30,190
Mail subscriptions: 17,494-17,890
Dealer Sales: 1,260

Total Paid: 18754-19,150
Free (samples, complimentary): 4,521-2,327
Total Distributed: 23,275-21,477

Not distributed: 9,996-8,713

I wonder in which category they account for sales through temples, centers, convo, etc... (dealer?)

I just bought a copy of the magazine and have read the articles that you detailed earlier. I found the article by Mrinilini to be fascinating; yet it seems that it has been part of the SRF recordings for years, with the article being an excerpt from that recording (which I've never heard).

To me she seems to be striving to counter many suppositions that devotee's have about PY; those devotee's of course the one's that never met him in the flesh, like you and me and pretty much everyone else here. It so happens that we've such an exalted idea of PY, not that this view is inaccurate she ensures us, that we can't seem to see him as a real live human being. A human being, that is, without constant super-human trancendental powers like omniscience. Apparently due to maya even avatars don't know what's gonna happen in the future all of the time. Like the Golden Lotus Temple sliding down the embankment in Encinitias.

He was so much fun, not at all like the dreary portrait that we've, the devotee's who've never met him, come to believe him to be. Disciplining disciples hither and yon, ever ready to censor even a little slippage in the disciple's behavior. That's so not real! He was always finding ways to make the disciples laugh, even in everyday situations with plays on words and other stream of consciousness laughter inducing methods to keep everyone light-hearted.

Actually as I say I enjoyed it immensely. For the first time I've read what surely must be the most honest account of PY issued from the SRF Publications Council. He was just like you and me, except he wasn't! He was able, she says, to do what was required of him in the world, yet all the time he was sure that it wasn't him that was doing it. And that surety is what I continue to find most profound and rare.

That is the image of Yogananda that will survive!
That is the image of Yogananda that will survive and inspire for generations. The sooner SRF gets out of the way the better.

Jai Guru!

I agree. That is the image we will remember. SRF will be a flea in history.
