Thank you soulcircle for your generous account. It's going to take me a few days to absorb what you have written.

Re: World Brotherhood of Colonies
NeedtheStar,

"I thought pretty hard about that community and the housing development. I live in Northern Illinois Etz.
Nothing...and I mean NOTHING like that in this area."

I grew up in Crystal Lake, IL, about a half hour drive from Lake Geneva. Wisconsin drinking age: 18. Illinois drinking age: 21. Very materialistic, rapidly growing suburb sort of place. I related to Edward Scissorhands quite strongly. Moved into Chicago proper at age 19. Once I get the time I'll be going up to spend a weekend or so at Raymer's place. I wouldn't mind helping with the cooking or the farming. It very much resembles home.

There seems to be a good amount of connection between Yogananda and Michigan, I mean with Black and Raymer and I think Ma Durga, and of course, Dhirananda at the University here.

"I just thought it was pretty common knowledge that YP had given the green light to Norman
Paulson, Margaret Brown Dietz, Donald Walters, Yogacharya M. Hamilton, Oliver Black, and Bob Raymer...maybe
not."

Yeah, there appears to be a current of thought that goes:

"Only current SRF approved persons shall legitimately dispence the Great Dispensation. We know who they are and we are watching. There will be dire consequences for those who do not comply".

Re: college football:

We won, and there weren't even many sirens last night. Crowds of kids everywhere, though. I guess we are number 4 and could go to whatever it's called that decides who's king of the hill for this season.

"at least they're chanting......"Go Big Blue" or something...it may not be Mickey Mouse or Hong Sau, but
that's all the same anyway right?

Y'know, I like the college kiddies and I have a really odd sense of humor, finding most things rather humorous or yummy, depending. Some things and people should actually be walked around, they are icky or even schmaltzy, but I'm finding some students who are thinking along the lines of this thread. Some of them openly wish to fix things. It's occured to me that someday I could sit in on the environmentalist courses or those fascinating experimental botanical classes and network. There's even a course being offered on engineering for planned communities and special needs people, like planning for the home of someone in a wheelchair.

"Go Big Blue"

It's "Go Blue" and you hear this chant building during all ingatherings of Wolverine devotees. During outpouring, after services, you hear other things, horns, hoots, drunken call and response, themes vary...

More proof of Yogananda's desire to have World Brotherhood of Colonies thrive beyond the shadows of SRF?

In the mid-thirties East-West article which is the earliest reference to Colonies I've seen, PY was simply advising a small number of families (10-20 I think) to get together, pool an equal share of money to purchase land, and begin. He did not say "write to MC for permission."

And community really is the key. Some time ago I met a woman whose little nuclear family had actually lived the 60's dream of gaining agrarian independence through growing various nut trees. She was at that time, very pragmatically studying for a new career. In her late forties, her back was starting to complain, and she realized she would not be up to running up and down ladders all day in 10, 15 or 20 years.

So something like the model of small indigenous villages, or the sharing of functions documented in places like "Black Elk Speaks." A place for the young, a place for the old, even a place for the "misfits," who were often considered sacred. What a concept!

Community:

There definitely seems to be a strong sentiment for community here, and while winter is not the best time to actively explore actual real estate, community is kept alive on Walrus. Just a suggestion, but should there ever be a communication interruption due to unforeseen circumstance, is there a newspaper or other means where Walri could get it back together? Perhaps a personal classified advertisement in a designated newspaper with national circulation to libraries, such as "SRF Walrus now regrouping, details follow." sort of thing. I was alone on the path too long and don't want to lose track my new friends. Think of it as insurance.

Nestling between the Himalayas and the Sivaliks and the Ganga and the Yamuna, the 8-acre farm has rejuvenated biodiversity on a landscape left barren and desertified by eucalyptus monoculture. More than 600 varieties of plants now flourish on the farm, including 250 rice varieties, 30 wheat varieties, and diverse varieties of millet, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables and medicinal plants. . The Navdanya Farm is located 10 miles from Dehradun, the capital of the newly formed state of Uttaranchal.
