Cindy Davis
Why is Cindy Davis in charge of the Legal Department? SRF is really looking bad with the way they are handling legal matters, as well as their own employees. What does someone need to do to be considered a failure at SRF? It seems to be the fear department.

Can anyone post the history of how SRF became the fear and suing company rather than the distributor of Yogananda's teachings? What is the root fear that caused this distortion?

You are blessed
You are blessed not to know. One of the more disappointing lay members at mother center. Illusions of greatness, a giant ego, and very mean spirited. And when she reads this she is really going to be mad!

Cindy Davis is in charge of the legal department, but it goes farther than that. Because of the way SRF works--no structure, all decisions made in secret, any decision can be revoked at any time--the few people with influence are actually the ones who run the entire organization. Sin-dy is actually more of a "Director" than the figurehead monastics who, we are told, make up the Board.

This has come about because, over the last 50 years, the true senior leaders--Ma, Mrinalini Ma, Ananda Ma--have decided they cannot trust anyone other than a small number of older women, who never disagree with them directly and appear to be "loyal" by acting sycophantically. (Look it up!) No one has any chance to counter the lies and innuendo these people constantly pour into their ears.

If any of you are familiar with the Tolkein masterpiece, The Fellowship of the Ring, this will help you understand what is going on: Sin-dy, and her cohort, are exactly like Wormtounge, and his stultifying influence on the good king Theoden.

(Look it up!) To keep this position they will say or do anything, and claim they are protecting Master's work.

They can't tell the difference between an issue that might really be a problem for Master's work--like someone else teaching Kriya--from a loyal monastic or member raising a question about something in SRf that needs to be fixed. So everyone is the enemy. And in acting that way, they actually create enemies where there were none.

This is hwat happened with the master plan. before these people got going, there was no animosity on the hill. There didn't need to be. The whole problem has been created by the stupid and unnecessary behavior of people who think they can do anything they want, that they are God's chosen, and that nobody can stop them. Also that anyone who disagrees with them is evil, and so can be treated in any way without remorse or repercussion.

I like someone else's post, that Jesus hasn't come down to fix all the problems with Christianity all these years, but we accept there are problems with it. Master himself talks about the problems with it ("Jesus' teaching have been crucified many times.") What could possibly lead someone to believe that, simply because an action is taken by someone at SRF, it must be right? That is what the rabid defenders are saying. Vishwananda himself has said this repeatedly to people. I quote him directly, "Even if they do something wrong, I will support it." I begin to wonder if these people were in charge of the Inquisition, and have been given another chance to act rightly in a similar situation, but aren't up to the challenge.

Legal Dept.
In another section of this site, someone posted a good question -- What is the root fear behind "us against them" and "trust no one" thinking that took hold of the SRF leaders. I would imagine that it was the fight that broke out with the Lewis's after Master's passing, followed by Kriyananda wanting to do his own thing? Does anyone know the truth? Or at least part of it?

In answer to your question about how this all came about....
After Rajarsi's death, there was an alliance formed between the Wright's (Ma and her family) and the Brown's (Mrinalini and her family), who simply took over. They outnumbered everyone else, as a bloc, and thus began the mess which you see today. They have ruled by fear and intimidation since day one, all the while shouting love and peace. There is much, much more to the story but this gives an insight on what has happened.....and who is to blame.

Thank you
I have benn "lurking" a while. all this information is very, very helpful to me. for years I have thought I was crazy or evil or just too stupid to understand things. i have been at a center and a temple serving and altho most--just about all--of the members are terrific people it is always a very weird thing to interact with Mother Center. lots of other things but what you are saying here helps and of course makes sense. To someone who posted somewhere about this being negative and posting things we don't really know about I say this: it is the people who do know who are posting. if you just have never had experience that is one thing and I can understand how you feel; if you have experience of this behavior and see your friends treated this way and you abandon them, saying they should have a better attitude, then you are treacherous. Master himself said that is the greatest crime. I wouldn't want to be in your place when you see him.

Cindy Davis - SRF Legal
Cindy Davis (aka Bni. Carol-Ann).. Cindy was a legal secretary, originally for Roger Kelly's law office - Gilbert, Kelly, Crowley, and Jennet. (And for those of you trying to guess just who I might be, I'm NOT Roger Kelly's son).

Bni. Carol-Ann was Ananda Ma's assistant because of her background. She left the ashram to go back into the "real" world and was gone for many years. She came back a few years ago and was considered a trusted employee due to her previous monastic training.

Strange
That is totally strange as she is now the trusted inside expert on legal issues, running the legal department, and of course is one of the central "bad ladies".

RE: Cindy
What gives with this? Same thing with Jackie Newton, aka Bni. Jacqueline. Left the ashram and then came back, now trusted without question although insane. I thought people who left were the worst betrayers? Could it be that nothing matters except what the leaders want, and that is good by definition? Sounds a lot like a cult to me.

Been there

Those who leave being trusted
Perhaps it is the "attitude" one has when she leaves. If she proclaims that her problem with ashram life lies solely within herself, that she has left to find out "what is wrong with her" and prays that she may one day be able to return...then she is not as " bad" as one who just says adios. Being able to spout the proper words is all-important. This is not to say that those who leave with "right attitude" are insincere. One who left and returned was sincerely unhappy in the world and convinced herself that being unhappy in the ashram was "the higher way". This is good news to the leadership. A nice repentant nun or ex-nun, grateful for her redemption and seemingly secure lifestyle, is good news indeed.

The Chosen Ones -- Plllllllleaaase!!
Interesting, isn't it, how the Matas use others to validate themselves. Do you see the elitism here? "The higher way" no longer means finding God wherever you are; instead, it means finding him exclusively at 3880 San Rafael Avenue.

"An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. Then he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all--he is the greatest." (Luke 9: 46-48)

The Temperament of a Guardian
Quote:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"[Guardians] know what the rules say, where the lines are drawn, and with a cocked ear and a sharp eye they are able to detect the smallest hint on non-compliance, the slightest degree of deviation, violation and transgression."
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daya Mata, Mrinalini Mata, and possibly Uma Mata and Cindy Davis are what are called Guardians according to the highly respected Keirsey Temperament Sorter. Ananda Mata is probably one, too.

This is a long post, and when I submit long posts few respond to them. BUT this is information you don't want to pass up because it is a treasure trove of phrases and keywords which will lead you to insight. Let's what Keirsey has to say about Guardians.....

KEIRSEY QUOTED:

"Guardians seem drawn to the role of social protector, standing watch against the insecurities of life, searching for ways to defend -- both themselves and others -- against loss, defeat, and disappointment, but also against what many of them regard as the irresponsibility of human nature. "

"Guardians naturally assume the role of society's gate-keeper, standing guard at the door and keeping a watchful eye on the coming and going of the people under their jurisdiction. Those without proper credentials (outsiders) cannot be allowed through, those who ignore boundaries (trespassers) must be caught and reprimanded, and those who think they have the right just to barge in (gate-crashers) need to be stopped and expelled --- 'shown the door' as [they] tend to say."

"They are also inclined to caution others about the danger of committing moral transgressions --- 'It wouldn't be right to do that.' And when their warnings are ignored they are the most likely of all to chide or reprove the transgresssor, for they are reluctant to let others get away with much."

"Pessimistic in Looking Ahead" ....."Because so many of their efforts are holding actions, trying to maintain the status quo in fast-paced, ever-changing situation, Guardians have learned to expect the worst."

"Change for a Guardian is unsettling" Guardians are the " keepers of tradition, of custom, of continuity with the past.....the new, the improvised, and the innovative, seem almost an affront to time-honored traditions, and are certainly unsettling."

"Let us think of the Guardians as the Security Seeking Personality. "

Vocational Interest of Guardians: "... office work and clerical jobs -- keeping records, checking inventory, attending to correspondence, filing, accounting -- with the brightest of them becoming executives, adminisitrators, plant or office managers, CPA's, bankers, brokers, insurance underwriters..."

The ISTJ Inspector Guardian [SRF Organization's typology] is interested in " thoroughness, detail, legality, standard procedures, and orderly flow of materiel..."

"Guardians trust authority. They believe in a hierarchical structure of authority -- rule from the top down. They believe there should be subordination and superordination, that the actions of members of communities, schools, churches, and corporations, but also families, should be governed by those in highest positions."

"Guardian self-esteem is greatest when they present themselves as dependable, trustworthy, or accountable in shouldering their responsibilities. 'No matter what,' says the [Guardian], 'you can count on me to fulfill my obligations and to honor my contracts."
